Egg Box Math Game Preparation

The preparation for these math games is so simple, all you need to do is start collecting egg cartons. Make sure you could ask the parents  of the children in your class to start saving them for you so you can grow your stash quicker!

Once you have enough egg cartons, to start using them with your class, you may decide to paint your boxes to make them more appealing. You could even make some labels with numbers for inside the egg containers as well as for the lid and sides of the box.

Equipment

  • Egg Cartons
  • Tongs
  • Dice – Packs of cards (picture cards removed)
  • Permanent Markers or printed labels
  • Pom Poms, Gems, Dried Beans, two colour counters or similar objects
  • Double sided Tape
  • Washi Tape

Instructions To Make Egg Box Math Games

To prepare the box for the games decide which digits you are focussing on and make sure you have the right dice. If the games focuses on the numbers 1-12 or 1-6 keep the egg carton intact.

Next use a permanent marker to write the digits in each egg section of  the. We used a six sided dice so we focussed on the numerals 1-6 .

You can write the numbers in order forwards on the first row and backwards on the second row or mixed up with 2 of each digit, however you think works best for your kids (you could also write the numbers on a round dot label or sticker and stick it in the egg holders, if you like).

Then you’re set! If you want to make the ten frame egg boxes, read our  egg carton ten frame activities post.
